GHK-Cu
Endogenous tripeptide (glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine) that chelates copper(II) ions. In skin-cell models and skin biopsies an influence on collagen synthesis, antioxidant markers, gene-expression profiles and wound-healing processes has been described. In topical use in cosmetic studies, changes in various skin parameters have been reported.
Matrixyl
KTTKS is a fragment of the procollagen I sequence and appears to be part of a feedback mechanism in fibroblasts: elevated concentrations signal intact collagen synthesis and downregulate new synthesis, while low concentrations stimulate it. In cell-culture studies, stimulation of collagen types I/III, elastin, fibronectin and glycosaminoglycans has been documented. The palmitoyl modification is intended to improve skin penetration; effect at the site of action (dermal fibroblasts) depends on permeation.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the difference between GHK-Cu and Matrixyl?
- GHK-Cu is classified as "Cosmetico", while Matrixyl is classified as "Cosmetico". GHK-Cu: Endogenous tripeptide (glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine) that chelates copper(II) ions. Studied in skin models and small human trials on collagen synthesis, skin regeneration and wound healing; permitted as a cosmetic ingredient in the EU. Matrixyl: Synthetic pentapeptide (KTTKS) with a palmitoyl modification, marketed as a topical anti-aging ingredient (Lipotec/Sederma). Structurally derived from a collagen-I fragment; intended to stimulate fibroblast activity. Cosmetic ingredient, not a medicine. This page contrasts both neutrally and source-based — with no usage or dosing recommendation.
- Which peptide is better supported by science, GHK-Cu or Matrixyl?
- The highest available evidence level is "Studio sull'uomo" for GHK-Cu and "RCT sull'uomo" for Matrixyl. A higher evidence level means more robust data, but says nothing about suitability for an individual. The full body of evidence is on each peptide's own page.
- What is the legal status of GHK-Cu and Matrixyl in Germany and the United States?
- Germania: GHK-Cu — Non approvato, Matrixyl — Non approvato. Stati Uniti: GHK-Cu — Non approvato, Matrixyl — Non approvato. These are factual summaries with source and review date on the individual pages.
